White paper "The fast-growing role of in-car systems in Traffic Management"
Despite suspicion from road authorities in the beginning of the large-scale use of navigation systems, independent research has shown that the use of navigation
systems leads to safer, more comfortable and less pollutant traffic. The introduction of high quality traffic information meant yet another significant improvement of traffic. And there’s more to come. The positive role of navigation systems in traffic management will even be even bigger now a new generation of connected navigation systems starts connecting drivers with each other.

White paper “Navigating away from moving observer journey times: Atkins’application of TomTom data to evaluation”
Any transport study can only strive to be as good as the data behind it, and so having reliable, robust and readily available data sources is the best foundation to any transport planning project. This paper considers the impact of readily available data sources, and focuses on an emerging form of journey time data - from GPS devices - and how it has improved the quality of evaluation projects conducted by Atkins.
Case study: “Basque Government uses TomTom data to improve traffic flow”
The Basque Government’s traffic centre uses TomTom’s GPS data to improve its service provision. Via TomTom’s TrafficStats portal, they get Custom Travel Time, historical traffic data, which is used for in-depth analysis of specific routes and locations. The reports coming out of these analyses are used to take the appropriate actions to improve traffic flows. This already resulted in quite some improvements.

Case study: “Landesbetrieb Mobilität Rheinland-Pfalz uses TomTom traffic data to solve traffic jam problems”
TomTom’s historical traffic information gives LBM RP a very user-friendly way of analysing precisely where the traffic mobility problems originate and how they can best be solved. The results of the analyses provide them with a basis for smarter decisions on major infrastructure works. In addition, LBM RP can present the data in its communication with the public in an attractive and very accessible way, in order to support its decisions.
Case study: “VMZ Berlin publishes online maps with real-time traffic information based on TomTom data”
VMZ Berlin, which runs the traffic information centre for the Berlin region on behalf of the States of Berlin and Brandenburg, uses TomTom HD Flow GPS data since August 2012. VMZ Berlin now has very accurate real-time information for a greater area than before, which was mainly coming from local sensors. Traffic is now monitored over 2,000 kilometres of the Berlin and Brandenburg road network, without any investment in extra sensors on the roads.
